This CLE program, presented by Magna Jury Consultant Malynda Ruth, explores how nonverbal communication influences juror perceptions of credibility, confidence, trustworthiness, and persuasion throughout the trial process. Drawing from research in communication, psychology, and jury decision making, this course examines the science behind first impressions, Thin Slice Judgments, and how the nonverbal behavior of a presenter shapes perceptions of competence and authenticity.
This course is Part One of a two-part series exploring the nine core elements of nonverbal communication. Part One focuses on the first four elements: body movement, facial expressions, eye behavior, and vocal delivery, while providing participants with practical strategies for applying these principles during trial.
The program also emphasizes that nonverbal communication should never be viewed in isolation, but rather as one important component of effective advocacy. Through courtroom examples and practical applications, attendees will learn how greater awareness and intentional use of nonverbal communication can reinforce an individual’s credibility, improve juror engagement, and enhance advocacy.
